Many Muslims today are living with a misconception that its enough for a Muslim to just believe in Allaah and not do anything more than that as that should suffice him. On the contrary this type of mentality is against the very basic principle of Islaam as many people are either unaware or too ignorant that Islaam is not just about having belief in the heart but also commanded to perform the good deeds mainly sacrificing in the path of allaah whether its inviting people to islam, commanding the good and forbidding the evil.
And those who believe and do righteous good deeds, they are dwellers of Paradise, they will dwell therein forever.
Al Baqarah: 82
Also in another verse:
As for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them are Gardens as an entertainment for what they used to do.
As Sajdah: 19
And Allaah also mentions in another verse in regards to doing good deeds:
And perform As Salat, and give Zakat, and whatever good (deeds that Allaah loves) you send forth for yourselves before you, you shall find it with Allaah. Certainly, Allaah is All Seer of what you do.
Al Baqarah: 110
Also in another verse Allaah says:
And I created not the Jinn or Mankind except that they should worship Me (alone).
Islaam is the deen we follow and must carefully analyse what does the term deen mean from Sharee’ah point of view? Abdullah Ibn Abbass said “deen is what you believe in, Practice willingly and prepared to sacrifice for.”
So if the Qur’an talks about believing and performing good deeds as Abdullah Ibn Abbass has also said that practicing that which is obliged upon to be part of the deen, then what excuses do we have to say that to believe is enough without having to exhort ourselves in the actions. We should ask ourselves is Paradise going to be ours just because we say that we believe and do nothing.
This Dunya is a test for us as well as those who came before us and also those who will come after us. Allaah will make it known who are upon the truth and who are upon falsehood as Allaah says:
Do people think they will be left alone because they say: “We believe,” and will not be tested.
Al Ankabut: 2
Allah (swt) addresses us as the best nation that is raised up from mankind due to the manifestation our actions not just because we like to restrict this belief in our heart.
You are the best people ever raised up from Mankind; you enjoin Al Marouf and forbid Al Munkar, and you believe in Allaah…
Ale ‘Imraan: 110
Furthermore, the klaimah of tawheed was not revealed to Mankind in order to profess tawheed al Ruboobiyah (The oneness of god in his Lordship) only, as the vast majority of the people believe in god as the creator but are misguided in tawheed al Uloohiyah (Oneness of god in his Worship) where they direct their worship to someone other than god. Tawheed al Uloohiyah is the tawheed of action, it is for this aspect of our belief the Prophets, Messengers, the companions and the truthful people struggled throughout their whole life towards. The question we need to ask ourselves are we people who just affirm that we are believers without to manifest that in our actions.
My brothers and sisters we have to realise that we are going to be brought back to Allah to be reckoned for all our deeds. Let us co-operate with each other upon the good deeds that Allah has obliged on us.
Help you one another in Al Birr and at taqwa but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment.
Al Maidah: 2
