From the Greatest of Sins: Being Bored of Allah’s Blessings

Ibn al-Qayyim ['al-Fawa'id'; p. 248]

“From the greatest of sins which are hidden – and widely practiced – is that the servant is enjoying a blessing that Allah has blessed him with and chosen for him, then that servant becomes bored of it and seeks to exchange it for what he thinks – due to his ignorance – is better for him than it, and His Lord continues to be merciful to him and does not prevent him from this blessing, and He excuses him due to his ignorance and this bad choice that he has chosen for himself. When he reaches the limit in scorning this blessing and his boredom with it overcomes him, Allah removes this blessing from him. So, if he is given what he sought in exchange for that blessing, and he sees the immense difference between what he was previously enjoying and and what he has now been given instead of it, his anxiety and regret increase and he requests a return to what he previously had. So, if Allah desires good and guidance for His servant, He allows him to bear witness that what he had was a blessing from the blessings of Allah upon him, and He causes him to become pleased with that blessing and to give thanks to Allah for it. If his soul then whispers to him to again seek to exchange that blessing for something else, he makes istikharah to His Lord, the istikharah of the one who is ignorant of what is in his best interests and unable to attain them. He turns his affairs to Allah, requesting of Him to help him make the best decision.

And there is nothing more harmful to the servant than to become bored of the blessings of Allah, because he does not see it as a blessing, and he does not thank Allah for it, and does not become happy because of it. Rather, he belittles it, complains about it and considers it to be a disaster – all this while it can well be from the greatest of Allah’s blessings upon him.

Most people have a feeling of enmity towards Allah’s blessings upon them, and they do not percieve that this opening that Allah has given them is actually a blessing, and they exert the utmost effort in repelling it and pushing it away out of ignorance and oppression. So, how many are those whom Allah’s blessings comes to one of them, and they rise to repel and fight against it? And how many are those whom the blessing comes to one of them and he strives to push it away and brush it to the side out of ignorance and oppression?

Allah – the Exalted – says: {“And this is because Allah would not change a blessing that He has blessed a people with unless they change what is within themselves.”} [al-Anfal; 53]

The one who is devoid of logic loses his chance until the affair passes him by. Then, he blames predestination.”

“I shall teach youi some words of advise”

On the authority of Abdullah bin Abbas, who said : One day I was behind the prophet and he said to me:

“Young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice] : Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah; if you seek help, seek help of Allah. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

Narrated by Termithi, who said it is true and fine hadith

In a version other than that of Tirmithi it reads:”..

Be mindful of Allah, you will find Him before you. Get to know Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know that what has passed you by was not going to befall you; and that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And know that victory comes with patience, relief with affliction, and ease with hardship.”

The status of the People of Badr

Ibn Qayyim al-Fawaid,  “The Status of the People of Badr”

“Many people have misinterpreted this hadith, for the obvious meaning is that everything has been allowed for them and that they can do whatever they want. But, this in fact is not the case. According to a group of people, among whom is Ibn al-Jawzy, “By this statement it does not mean that their future sins are included, but what are meant are the past sins. That is to say, “I have forgiven every bad thing you did before.” He (Ibn al-Jawzy) said “and there are two things that prove that: If it was supposed to mean future sins, the answer would have been: I will forgive you. The second thing is that it would have been a sort of freedom to commit sins, and there is no reason for that.

The true meaning of this response is: I have forgiven your previous sins because of this battle. But it is a weak argument in two ways:

Firstly, because the statement, ‘Do whatever you like, I have forgiven you.’ And the statement ‘I have forgiven you.” Does not necessarily mean ‘I will forgive you” in order to include future sins, for the statement ‘I have forgiven’ is a confirmation that there will be forgiveness in the future, just like the following statements in the Qur’an which means: “The qiyama (event) ordained by Allah will come to pass” and that which means “and your Lord comes” and so on.

Secondly: the hadith itself replies to him, for the cause of it is the story of Hatib (ra) and his spying on the prophet (saw), and that is a sin that was committed after (6 years of) the battle of Badr and not before it, therefore, the second opinion is definitely correct.Allah knows best, but we think that this is a statement about people that Allah knew would not leave their religion, and that they would die in the state of Islam. He also knew that they might commit some sins like other people do, but He would not leave them to persist in them, but would make is easy for them to turn to Him with sincere repentance, seek His forgiveness and do righteous deeds that wipe out the trace of their sins. And this would be specified for them only and not for others.

This is because their truthfulness has been proven and so they have been forgiven. It can also be that they were granted forgiveness because of these reasons, and it does not mean that they should stop performing religious duties, because of having been forgiven, and if that happened without fulfilling orders, they would not have needed to pray or fast or perform pilgrimage or pay zakat or do jihad.

Just because someone is certain to be forgiven, it does not mean that repentance should be delayed. This point is mentioned in another hadith. Abu Hurairah (ra) narrated that: “I heard the prophet (saw) saying, If somebody commits a sin and then says; O my Lord! I’ve sinned, please forgive me! And his Lord says, My slave knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven My slave (his sins). Then he remains without committing any sin for a while and then again commits another sin and says, O my Lord, I’ve committed another sin, please forgive me, and Allah says, My slave knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven My slave (his sin). Then he remains without committing any sin for a while and then commits another sin (for the third time) and says, O my Lord, I have committed another sin, please forgive me, and Allah says, My slave knows that he has a Lord who forgives sins and punishes for it, I therefore have forgiven My slave (his sins), he can do whatever he likes.” (Bukhari and Muslim)

This does not mean that this person is allowed to do forbidden things, but it means that as long as the person repents, whenever he commits sins, Allah will forgive him.

And the reason this servant has been distinguished with this is because it is known that he does not insist on a sin, and that whenever he commits a sin he repents. It is just as certain for this servant as it is for the people of Badr, as well as anyone the messenger of Allah (saw) gave the good news of entering Paradise or told him that his sins had been forgiven. It was not understood from him or any of the companions that the person is free to commit sins and neglect religious duties. In fact these people were even busier in exerting more effort and feared more after they received the good news than before. This applies more to the ten people who were given the good news of entering Paradise. Abu Bakr (ra), for instance was known to be even more cautious and he feared Allah a great deal. Likewise, Umar (ra) believed that this good news limited by its conditions, and so remained constant in piety until his death. Obviously, Umar (ra) continued to avoid anything that was forbidden. None of them understood that they were given absolute permission to do whatever they wanted.”

The Deeds Of The People Of Paradise And The Deeds of The People Of The Fire

Shaykhul-Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah

Majmoo’ul Fataawaa (10/422)

Shaykhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah was asked, what are the deeds of the people of Paradise, and what are the deeds of the people of the Fire?

So He answered – All praise is due to Allaah, Lord of all the worlds – An action of the people of Paradise is Faith (eemaan), and righteousness (taqwaa), and an action of the people of the Fire is disbelief (kufr), and corruption (fusooq), and disobedience (‘asyaan). So the deeds of the people of Paradise are faith in Allaah, and His angels, and His books, and His messengers, and the Last Day, and faith in pre-decree (qadar) – the good of it, and the evil of it. And the two testimonies; bearing witness that there is no true deity worthy of worship except for Allaah, and Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is the Messenger of Allaah. And establishing prayer, and giving charity (zakaat), and the fast of Ramadhaan, and pilgrimage to the House. And that you worship Allaah as though you see Him, so even though you cannot see Him, verily He sees you. And from the deeds of the people of Paradise is truthful speech, and fulfilling trusts, and the keeping of agreements, and righteousness towards the parents and family, and mercy and goodness towards the neighbours and orphans, and the poor, and the slave from amongst the poor, and the cattle. And from the deeds of the people of Paradise is being sincere towards Allaah, and trusting in Him, and loving for His sake, and His messenger, and fearing Allaah, and having hope in His Mercy, and turning repentantly to Him, and having patience on His Command, and being thankful for His Blessings. And from the actions of the people of Paradise is the recitation of the Qur`aan, and the remembrance of Allaah, and calling on Him for ones affairs, and having a fervent desire (raghbah) towards Him. And from the actions of the people of Paradise is commanding with good, and forbidding from evil, and making Jihaad in the Path of Allaah against the disbelievers and hypocrites.

And from the deeds of the people of Paradise is to maintain ties with whoever cuts himself off from you, and to allow for the one who forbids for you, and to forgive the one who oppresses you. For verily Allaah has prepared Paradise for the righteous.

“Those who spend in ease and hardship, and the restrainers of anger, and the forgivers of people – and Allaah loves those who are good.” [Soorah Aali Imraan 3:134]

And from the deeds of the people of Paradise is trustworthiness in all affairs, and with all of the creation, even the disbelievers, and similar to these actions.

And as for the people of the Fire, they do the likes of associating partners with Allaah, and lying on the messengers, and disbelief, and jealousy, and falsehood, and faithlessness, and oppression, and evil, and treachery, and the cutting off of mercy, and being cowardly towards Jihaad, and differing secretly or publicly, and to renounce and feel hopeless about the Light of Allaah, and to feel secure from the Plot of Allaah. And to become worried due to difficulties, and boasting and having arrogance during good times, and abandoning their obligatory duties to Allaah, and committing transgression against His limits, and consuming what He has forbidden. And fearing the creation rather than the Creator, and having hope in the creation rather than the Creator, and putting trust on the creatures instead of the Creator, and acting for the sake of showing off and gaining a good reputation. And opposing the Book and the Sunnah, and obeying the creation in disobedience to the Creator. And ridiculing the words of Allaah, and denial of the truth, and concealing that which should be manifest from knowledge, and testimony.

And from the deeds of the people of the Fire is practicing magic, and disobedience to the parents, and killing a person whom Allaah has made it forbidden to kill without a right. And eating the inheritance of an orphan, and eating interest, and running away from the army, and to accuse and make fools of chaste believing women. And a detailed discussion of these two matters is not possible, rather all of the deeds of the people of Paradise fall under obedience to Allaah and His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), and all of the deeds of the people of the Fire fall under disobedience to Allaah and His Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

“And whoever obeys Allaah and His messenger, shall enter into gardens underneath which rivers flow, abiding therein, and that is the greatest achievement. And whoever disobeys Allaah and His Messenger and transgresses His limits, for him is a shameful punishment.” [Sooratun Nisaa 4:13-14]

“If Allah loves a person, He tests them.”

Sulayman bin ‘Abdillah bin Muhammad bin ‘Abd al-Wahhab

‘Taysir al-’Aziz al-Hamid’; p. 353-355″…

because this forces the servant to repent.Allah tests the servants with the punishments of this world in order that they repent from their sins, as He Said:

{“…that He may make them taste a bit of that which they have done, in order that they may return.”} [ar-Rum; 41]

So, for whoever is granted the chance to repent by Allah as the result of an act of disobedience, this is from the greatest of blessings of Allah upon him, because this will result in his invoking and supplicating to Allah with submission and humility. Because of this, Allah has condemned those who do not lean on their Lord, and do not invoke Him when crisis occurs:

{“And indeed, We seized them with punishment. But, they did not humble themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke Him with submission.”} [al-Mu'minun; 76]

And supplicating and invoking Allah with humility is from the greatest of blessings, and this blessing is from the greatest paths by which one can rectify his religious practice, as the rectification of one’s religious practice is in his worshipping Allah, alone, depending on Him, and not calling upon any deity besides Him – not a du’a’ of worship, nor a du’a’ of request.

So, if you are granted the chance to perform repentance, which entails worshipping Allah, alone, and you obey His Messengers by doing that which you are commanded, and abandoning that from which you are forbidden, you are from those who worship Allah. And if you are granted the chance to supplicate to Allah – which is to ask Allah for whatever you need, and you ask Him for what will benefit you, and you seek refuge with Him from anything that would harm you – this is from the greatest of Allah’s blessings upon you.

This is usually what happens when a disaster strikes, and if such blessings emerge when crisis strikes, it would only make sense that the people most deserving of this are those who are beloved to Him, and it is upon such people to thank Allah.”

How might One obtain Ikhlaas?

Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyyah rahimahullah

Al Fawaa’id 221

Ikhlaas (sincerity) cannot coexist in a heart which [embraces] the love of praise and commendation, [nor] the yearning [to obtain] that which is possessed amongst the people, save in the [manner] that fire and water, or a lizard and fish may coexist.

If your soul informs you to quest for Ikhlaas, turn first towards your yearning and slaughter it with a knife [in a state] of desperation. Then turn [in a state of] asceticism upon praise and commendation, the asceticism of the [one] who loved the Dunya for the sake of the Hereafter. If your quest in the [act] of slaughtering the yearning, and [the acquisition of] asceticism [against] praise and commendation is successful, your [journey] shall be facilitated in your [quest] for Ikhlaas.

If it is mentioned: What may facilitate the [act] of slaughtering the yearning and the [development] of asceticism [against] the praise and commendation?

I say:

The method of facilitating the [act] of slaughtering the yearning: Your definitive knowledge that there is no matter [present] that awakens ones greed for, save the worship of Allah alone, and the Treasures which He alone possesses. For no individual can furnish the slave with [those Treasures] save He.

The method of facilitating the [development] of asceticism [against] praise and commendation: Your knowledge that there is no individual who can [confer] benefit upon or beautify his praise, [nor] inflict damage upon or disgrace his vilification, save Allah alone.

As the bedouin said to the Prophet, sallallahu `alaihi wa sallam:

My praise [has been] embellished, and indeed my vilification [has been] disgraced. The Prophet sallallahu`alaihi wa sallam remarked: That is Allah. [Tirmidhi 3266, Kitab Tafseer al-Quran, Declared Saheeh]

Accordingly, be ascetic for praise [and] the one who is incapable of beautifying his praise for you. [And] for vilification [and] the one who is incapable of disgracing his vilification for you. Be desirous for the One who is absolute in the embellishment of His praise, and is absolute in the tarnishment of His vilification. For none shall acquire that, save with patience and certainty, and when you have forfeited patience and certainty, you are comparable to the one who desired to journey across a sea without [the aid] of a vessel

.Allah has mentioned:

Be patient. Verily the promise of Allah is true, and let not those who are devoid of certainty in faith discourage you from conveying [Allah's Message]. [Ar-Rum: 60]

We have made from amongst them leaders, guiding under One Command, when they were patient and believed in Our Signs with certainty. [As-Sajdah: 24]

Rise against Oppression

“British oppression against Muslims?”

“What oppression are you talking about?!”

“I’m not being oppressed!”

These statements are often heard from selfish, self-centred individuals that are detached from the Muslim Ummah (community) and only concerned about themselves.

They have no Islamic emotions and cannot feel the oppression other Muslims are facing, even though the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) described his followers as one body – if one part of it is in pain, all the other parts will likewise suffer and work together to heal it.

They see no evil and hear no evil, turning a blind eye to what is happening to Muslims in the UK and abroad, and ignoring the British government’s involvement in terrorism and the torture of Muslims (in Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay).

Britain continues to support Israeli (Jewish) and American aggression towards Muslims, bomb and kill Muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan, raid Muslim homes and arrest innocent Muslim men and women under bogus “anti-terror” laws. Yet despite all of this, people still have the audacity to say, “What oppression? I’m not being oppressed!”

Because they are so preoccupied with the dunyaa (worldly life), leading a comfortable lifestyle, integrating with the Kuffaar, working 9-6 or studying to complete their kufr (non-Islamic) education, they do not have time to worry about what is happening to the true followers of Muhammad (SAW) and his Companions (RA).

Moreover, they are not fulfilling their responsibilities (working to establish the Shari’ah, challenging falsehood and publicly exposing the evil in society), and that is why they cannot feel the oppression and tyranny of the Kuffaar, as the Prophet (SAW) and his Companions (RA) felt.

Numerous excuses are made by pessimistic, so-called Muslims not to speak out against the evil in society (or British oppression) because they fear being attacked, losing their jobs, benefits or funding.

What they do not realise is that Allah (SWT) will not only punish the oppressors, He will also punish those who were silent about the oppression. Allah (SWT) says: “And fear the Fitnah (affliction and punishment) which will not only affect those who did wrong (but also those who did nothing), and know that Allah is Severe in punishment.” (EMQ al-Anfaal, 8:25)

The Messenger of Allah (SWT) said: “Whoever sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; if he cannot, let him (speak out) with his tongue; if he cannot, let him (hate it) with his heart – and that is the weakest form of Imaan.”

Forbidding evil is part of Imaan (as indicated in the above hadeeth), an act of worship (‘Ibaadah) and a command from Allah. Furthermore, it is an attribute and characteristic of the true Believers.

Muslims should do what they have been ordered to do and leave the outcome to Allah (SWT).

Education- A mothers perspective

Written by a concerned sister

As a Muslim woman and mother living in this kufr society, it is difficult for me to go by my day-to-day practises without being exposed to some kind of kufr. It’s hard enough to refrain from looking at it, let alone explain to my two-and-a-half year old daughter that not everyone is a Muslim. Al-Hamdulillah though, she knows the difference between a kaafir and a Muslim. Some days she’ll stand at the window telling me she’s looking at the kaafir go by. Other days when I speak to her about Sheikh Usaamah, she’ll think about it and reply with ‘Go away kaafir’, and raise her hand as if to hit someone.

Times are getting more and more difficult for the Muslims, with our brothers and sisters being arrested up and down the country. The hatred towards Muslims is blatant, yet we still choose to leave our children in the hands of the kuffaar. How can we say ‘Laa ilaaha illallaah’ and allow our children to be educated (and dictated) by the kuffaar in school everyday? With the introduction in the last few years of Citizenship into the Curriculum, we are allowing our children to be taught that they must give allegiance to the Queen, and have hatred towards our great scholars and Mujaahideen.

In English, as part of GCSE, they must study Shakespeare, whose books are full of homosexuality, fornication and adultery, each of which are great sins in Islam.

When we allow them to do PE, they must expose parts of their awrah as a ‘safety measurement’. In Religious Education, come Christmas time, our children are taught how to sing Christmas Carols, and come Halloween they are indoctrinated with ghosts and spooks, whereas in Islam we believe that the Jinns are created by Allah (swt). They worship and obey Him, as we as Muslims should, and they cannot harm us unless we harm them. Aside of this, each year they are taught about Diwali, Hanukkah, Vaisakhi and Chinese New Year, to name but a few.

Allah (swt) has informed us that it is prohibited to teach our children anything other than the deen of Islam until the age of seven, after which, anything that they are taught, is solely for the reason of refutation and nothing else.

The amount of things our children are indoctrinated with are unbelievable.Once, before I started practising, I went on a school trip with some five-year olds whom a member of my family used to teach, and in the coach, I was sitting in front of one girl who had two boys next to her. She was telling them what she intimately wanted to do to them. A’oodhubillah! Only recently, someone I know was talking about something in her school, and she mentioned that a girl in her school had a boyfriend. The first incident was almost ten years ago now, yet both events are related, as they were a result of the kufr taught in schools. In Islam, we separate the two genders for this very reason, yet we are labelled backwards. Realise sisters, that the child that you think is ‘safe’ in the hands of the kuffaar, is being indoctrinated with kufr day by day. Ask yourselves, how aware are you of what your child gets up to at school?

At the end of the day, we are responsible for our own children. After all, why have children if you’re going to put them into school at the age of three and a half, and in the hands of the kuffaar?! They are enemies of Allah, yet we think that education is the best way forward for our children; it may be so, but what kind of education? Even the so-called Islamic school nowadays are full of kufr.

We need to ask ourselves what we want our children to be when they grow up. Do we want them to be great scholars like Imaam Abu Haneefah (ra) and ‘Aa-ishah bint Abee Bakr (ra) or pop stars and film stars? Do we want them to be like Usaamah bin Zayd and Khaled ibn Waleed or the next Michael Jackson or David Beckham?

It is time that the Muslims woke up and began taking interest in their children’s lives. For every word they speak and every action they take is based on what they have been taught by either what they have been taught at school or by what they are being taught at home. Let it be that latter my dear sisters. Let it be the future for our children and not their failure.

The Saudi citizenship is under my foot

Shaykh Al Mutaz Billah Faaris bin Ahmad bin Jama’an Bin Ali Aal Swail Al Hassani al Zahraani al Azdi

In the name of Allah, the most gracious, most merciful

Thank Allah, the Exalted, the Almighty, the Forgiving and the Punishing

May Allah’s prayers be upon our Prophet, who taught us pride and dignity. He taught us to challenge the enemy and take the path of the honest people. He taught us to not yield to the Apostates.

Prophet Muhammad is the Imaam of the pious and sincere people, May Allah accept him and his powerful followers, who abjured anybody who contradicted, the good Hanafi, no matter close he was to them. They went around the world, and faced danger in the desert and risked their lives as a proof of this.

They took over lands and countries to get them to worship the only God worthy of the Heavens and Earth.

I, Al Mutaz Billah Faaris bin Ahmad bin Jama’an Bin Ali Aal Swail Al Hassani al Zahraani al Azdi, declare to the whole world that the Saudi citizenship is under my foot. I am not Saudi and I will not recognize this citizenship for anybody. I am Muslim. I read history and did not find in it anything called citizenship.

A Muslim person used to be able to freely move in the lands of Islaam as he wished with no borders or passports stopping him. Nor did he have a bigotry homeland to worship. I am a descendant of a family and people who are well known among the Arab tribes of Bani Hassan which is one of the Zahraan tribes. Zahraan goes back to al Azad. So I am not a descendent of the Saudi family. The Saudi family has no right to give its name to people. The whole world witnesses that people everywhere are named by their countries, lands, tribes or families. Only in this country called ‘Saudi’, people are attributed to this unjust and wrongful ruling family.

Allah says, ‘thus did he make fools of his people, and they obeyed him: truly they were a people rebellious against Allah’.

I am calling on the people of the Arabian Peninsula not to accept the behavior of this ruling family, which is making fools of them. I call on them to remember their great history and unite to revolt against the tyrants who insulted and demanded them and ruined their image among people.

As in this poem:

‘She is belittling us because we are few, so I told her that the dignitaries are always few. Don’t underestimate our small number, we are young but we look high towards dignity. It doesn’t hurt if we are few but we have dear neighbors unlike the humiliated neighbors of the many.

We are people who don’t believe that killing is a curse, if it were directed to Amer and Salul. We look forward to death and we don’t fear it, but they spend their whole lives fearing death. We only fight those who deserve to be fought. If one master of us leaves, another will follow to fulfill the master’s deed. We never close the doors in the face of anyone and no one can humiliate us in battle. It is well known to all what we did to our enemies and what traces we left behind. Our swords are all over the East and in the West carried by a lot of people. These swords when they are out of their sheathes will not go back in, before achieving victory.

Hence, You, tribes of the Arabian Peninsula, your dignity came about only through Islaam, and here you see the clear Apostasy of these regimes and the states that will rule you. They are aiding Apostates against Muslims. They are ruling against Allah’s orders to his Prophet, divulging the Arabian Peninsula to the Jews and the Crusaders. They are chasing and arresting believers and allowing what Allah forbids and forbidding what Allah allows.

All this is clear to all, young and old. The tyrants did not even leave Islaam for you. They are fighting us because of our religion and they are not protecting Islaam. In fact, they are the biggest thieves in history. They robbed the treasures and the wealth of the country. They destroyed its resources and economy. They ruined people’s ethics and morals. All this in addition to many other atrocities they have committed.

To the Lions of the Peninsula:

Till when are you going to be afraid?

Heroes of Islaam, you are the descendants of the Prophet’s companions, of the Muhaajireen and Ansaar, until when are you going to bow to them and give in.

As for you descendants of Saud, I advise you not to hope that we will be generous to you while you insult and hurt us. Allah knows that we don’t like you and we don’t blame you if you don’t like us either. There is always a reason behind us hating a fellow companion. We have always despised you because you have oppressed us.

Allah will help us and we rely on him. Our refuge is only in Allah.
